MMM MMMMM AIIIII OJ OJ OJ NEJ NEJJ ÅH ÅHÅ HÅÅÅÅÅÅÅ
Papier maché, modelling wax that never hardens, plastic grass and a one-piece wooden hatchet
C4 Projects, In This Gesture, Copenhagen 2021
About the work:
In the installation ‘mmm mmmmm aiiii(…)’ we are greeted by three rubber chickens casted in modelling wax coupled with a wooden ax (hanging by a wall oposite the yellow platform) and three pieces of papier maché sculptures at once bodies, signs and drawings.
The work takes its point of departure in an anecdote of a failed be- heading & a morphed childhood memory of headless chicks running screaming across the lawn. Imagine, if you will, the horror-like fascination and the bizarre fact that the chicken, even after losing her head, got to keep her voice!
The chicken is linked to morbid humor and caricature. In the joke “Why did the chicken cross the road?” a chicken commits suicide by going out into the street. The moaning voice of someone getting hurt or getting off emits through the vocalizing title, which refers to the sounding poem “Neiiij” by Sonja Åkesson – a feminist classic that slides along the limit between pain and pleasure while playing with stereotypical female roles: the suffering woman, the sexy and the one who acts like a child.
