I LIKE THE HUNGRY WAY SHE LOOKS AT ME

This performance make use of tropes and caricature. The Carrot, The Red Dress, The Woman and The Horse combine traditional sculptural qualities and figures with contemporary values that connect with images of desire, lust and lure as recognized from cartoons, pop culture or western art history.

The title comes from the diaries of Anaïs Nin and provoke couplings between the act of looking and the woman’s desire as orally consuming the other – a form of voyeuristic cannibalism.

In the work we see a woman entering a horse’s fold wearing an ill-fitting red silk dress and leather boots. She carries a high chair, a carrot and a peeler. She mounts the chair and begins to peel the carrot. The horses catch the scent.

A bodily negotiation and a scuptural wrestling begins.

She takes a bite.
