Centered around the figure of the Centaur this performance plays with the division of top/bottom dynamics in a way that brings to mind when Laurie Andersson, in performing ”Home of the brave”, turns to one of her musicians and ask:
”Did you ever play that game when you were a kid? You know where the upper body was the rider and the lower body was this wild galloping…horse. Kind of like a sophisticated top and possessed bottom. Did you ever do that?”
While playfully challenging the boundaries of bodies and roles typically viewed as female, this work springs from a darker soil: experiences of grief, the witnessing of a horse dying and an underlying question of what happens to a person when their relationship to language itself is put to crisis.
