“This but(t) is for you, Yves”

The Beers exhibition at Byens Kro will soon be over. Unfortunately, I have not sold my work, but someone did steal it. My blue-painted arse is hopefully very loved in its new home.

You have to feel a little flattered, right?

For you with good taste in art and probably no money: the photo wasn’t really for you. It was for Yves Klein. (The Buttweiser t-shirt is still hanging in the pub, but it’s for Lana del Ray, so please don’t take that too!)

The piece “This but(t) is for you, Yves!” directs a questioning but towards a true ancestor of modern art, known for patenting a very deep ultramarine colour and then only making works in this colour. He is known for his interest in nothingness and for wearing white gloves, an unstained white shirt and jacket while letting pretty girls do the dirty work by acting as “living brushes” in the performance Anthropometries, where they are instructed to drag themselves and each other naked and smeared in his blue paint over white surfaces.

Why was Yves only interested in the front of the girls?
Maybe he thought it would be too ridiculous if the girls did ass prints?

Tits, Yves thought, are more sophisticated.

In the photo that was stolen, I turn, backside first, towards Yves with a cleavage that can be read as equal parts fuck you finger and idol worship. It is after all a very lovely colour. And it’s certainly exciting with the nothing, with the void..

I’m not even joking!

I know, it’s very old man-ish of me to like something as pompous and abstract as the nothing. But I do, I admit it, and it pretty much informed my 2020 graduation piece “Make butter or lead a horse at Will” which explores bodily expressions of formless experience.

However, I’ve come to realize now that in the art world it’s not viable to show “nothing” no matter how exciting it is, at least not as a woman, so now I usually show “something” instead.

Like now for the Beers exhibition, when I showed a fully visible actual photo that got stolen.

Back to nothing then 🕳️ 💙
